How Exercise Helped

Exercise is many things for many people, for some it’s an escape, a release, a motivator, a saviour, a belief or just a hobby.

This is your chance to let the world know what exercise has done for you, and hopefully encourage someone who is going through the same as you to take that first step into a healthier life by reading your story.

How Exercise Helped my Asthma

How long have you been exercising for?

On and off for the past year after a very long time (almost 5 years of doing nothing ). More concentrated in the last 3 months.

What made you decide to get into it?

My asthma symptoms were getting worse. My medication had been changed and increased 4 x over the last 18 months.

Do you enjoy it/ have you always enjoyed it?

It took a while to get back into it and make it a part if my life. (6 months to be exact).

And yes, enjoy it now!

What was is the 1st change you noticed in yourself after you started to exercise?

I was able to climb the stairs without getting breathless.

How would you say exercise has helped you?

It’s improved my stamina, it has reduced my reliance on some of my asthma medication and as a bonus I have lost weight. I feel a lot better, a lot healthier and not afraid anymore.  I used to be very cautious, and scared to start exercising because of my asthma, and I had been sedentary for a long time.  But getting back into it was the best thing I could of done for myself.  I can actually breathe now, I have more energy and i can move around without fear of having an attack.

What is your favorite exercise to do?

At the moment it’s the plank. I am at 30 seconds hold now.

Any advice to give to anyone thinking about getting into exercise to help them?

Take it slowly, and build up. Don’t give up. You do end up with an immense feeling of satisfaction.

How Exercise Helped with my Confidence

How long have you been exercising for?
I have been a gym member for last 10years but I would have to say I really committed to and got serious about exercise 3 years ago.

What made you decide to get into it?
I was over 300 pounds and definitely not living a healthy lifestyle and really needed a change in my life or else my life would have ended prematurely.
Do you enjoy it/ have you always enjoyed it?
I absolutely love to exercise now it is my greatest form of stress relief and I feel like there is nothing a good workout can not solve! I  did not always like it I actually hated it. I hated to sweat I did not like the pain it caused and I thought it was too much effort all things I love about it now.
What was is the 1st change you noticed in yourself after you started to exercise?
The first thing I noticed was my mood. I went from the tendency to be depressed to feeling very happy most of the time!
How would you say exercise has helped you?
Exercised has completely changed my life. I went from being very shy and reclusive and not having a social life, being embarrassed to go out to having a lot more confidence, now I love meeting new people and going new places. Before I could not bear the thought of trying to find clothes to wear to go out now I love shopping and get super excited each size I go down.
Any advice to give to anyone thinking about getting into exercise to help them?
Just start! Make the commitment! You may  think your goals are impossible and too far away but that is not the case! Take it from someone who has lost over 100 pounds. When you over come what you think is impossible the feeling is amazing! The beginning is hard but once you stick to it you will soon love it and love how it makes you feel. You will soon never want to stop!
